Data and Document Management relies on the infrastructure for the management of electronic files, the organization of storage locations and providing a user interface to search, edit, share and distribute the stored information. A powerful scan- and imaging software is needed to capture paper documents and to visualize the scanned results.
There may be legal requirements or a huge amount of documents, driving the need for a Document Management System, but also the capability to work at the local desktop with documents, which are located in a central archive, allows to share documents with other users and to collaborate efficiently in a team.

Imaging and Scanning provide the mechanisms to translate paper into electronic data and images. In some cases the contents of the scanned documents have to be automatically analyzed and entered into a database or ERP system, e.g. SAP R/3. Usually the exact electronic copy of the scanned document has also to be archived to fulfill legal requirements.

MetaModules integrates the JustScan Products by Futuresoft (www.futuresoft.de) to provide a rich solution set of scan, view and recognition components. In combination with the MetaModules storage architecture and the MetaConnectors a complete document and data solution for most customer scenarios can be configured. The paper documents are scanned, optionally run through a recognition step, archived and linked to the management application. This can be e.g. SAP R/3, mySAP.com applications or Lotus Domino.

Without a dedicated business application or as a convenient additional user interface the electronic documents can be presented through a portal solution based on Microsoft SharePoint Portal or the MetaModules Content Management System. See our Portal Solutions section for more information.
