Until a short time ago
there was a clear distinction between databases,
local storage, remote storage, backup systems and
archive systems. Since magnetic storage became cheap
and SAN environments provide fast access to the
enterprise storage infrastructure from every server
system, the advantages of the different storage
architectures seems to vanish or overlap. E.g. you
can get redundant magnetic storage with the same
or more capacity than an optical jukebox. You can
extend your local server storage by one terabyte
for less than 15000.- USD. But there are still reasons
to use optical storage, nearline archive systems
or tape libraries.
The MetaModules storage architecture was designed
with this changing situation in mind. Please read
our Storage
Architecture Whitepaper about the efficient
use of local and network storage in combination
with optical media and tape libraries. |
